Security status
Email is not a secure anonymous tip channel
Bay Evidence has not yet published a dedicated encrypted or anonymous source channel. Do not send highly sensitive documents, protected client records, credentials, sealed material, or information that could expose you to retaliation through ordinary email or the public contribution form. A future secure channel will be listed here only after it is actually configured and tested.

High-value material
- Contracts, amendments, invoices, audits, procurement records, and budget documents.
- Count methodology, field instructions, definitions, data dictionaries, and revision notices.
- Evidence that a public claim conflicts with an underlying record or outcome measure.
- Program closure, access, capacity, eligibility, or service information that can be independently verified.
- Records showing how a policy or administrative process actually operates in practice.
Do not send
- Passwords, login credentials, access tokens, or instructions for unauthorized access.
- Unredacted medical, HMIS, benefits, or case-management records identifying clients unless lawful publication and secure handling have been established.
- Doxxing material, intimate imagery, or personal information unrelated to a demonstrable public-interest finding.
- Material you obtained by committing or requesting a crime.
Source protection
No promise should exceed the tools available
Bay Evidence may agree to protect a source's identity when the public interest and reporting need justify it, but no source should assume anonymity merely by contacting the publication. Protection depends on the reporting arrangement, the technical channel used, the records involved, and legal obligations. If your employment, housing, immigration status, benefits, safety, or professional license could be affected by disclosure, avoid using an employer-controlled device or account and do not send sensitive material until a suitable channel is available.
